Center for Specialized Gynecology

Specialized Gynecology?

What is Specialized Gynecology?

We have chosen to focus our practice on Gynecology only. While we are all Obstetrician/Gynecologists by training and previous years of practice, both areas have grown so much and the populations have become quite diverse. Therefore, we believe that we can provide our patients with the most up to date information and cutting edge therapies by concentrating only on Gynecology. We provide expertise in evaluation, treatment, and follow-up for the unique medical and surgical needs of our patients including children, adolescents, and adults. All of our physicians and our nurse practitioner have specialized training in the many areas that we cover. The topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Gardisil administration
  • Routine gynecologic care
  • Pre-conceptual counseling
  • Contraception management
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Abnormal menstrual bleeding
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Menstrual abnormalities
  • Early or delayed pubertal development
  • Genital injuries
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Congenital anomalies
  • Vulvar infections, skin conditions, itching
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Sexual issues
  • Gynecologic cancer
  • Breast disorders
  • Peri-menopause
  • Menopause
  • Osteoporosis
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Vulvodynia

We manage gynecologic problems both medically and surgically as indicated. Dr. Kaufman has special training in the area of operative hysteroscopy, including resection of polyps and fibroids, and uterine ablation. All of these techniques, which are minimally invasive, help a woman avoid a hysterectomy when there are other reasonable treatment options. We also provide the Essure tubal occlusion procedure, an alternative to a laparoscopic tubal ligation.

We offer many minimally invasive procedures in our office including: insertion of IUDs, colposcopy, diagnostic hysteroscopy, Implanon and Nexplanon insertion, endometrial biopsies, vulvar biopsies, and removal of hymenal septums.

For the convenience of our patients, we also draw blood in the office.

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology is a highly specialized field and a relatively new sub-specialty of gynecology. It requires in-depth extensive training in order to assure that these particular age groups are evaluated and treated in a manner that is very different from adult women. There are a limited number of physicians around the country who have this expertise. Our physicians have been practicing this subspecialty for many years and show a sensitivity and understanding that only those practitioners who have specific training in this field can display. Dr. Kaufman has been training medical students, residents, and other physicians in this field for many years. She is also involved with the organization, North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and is a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
